Indimin: The best play every day with Smart Mining Coach

Smart Mining Coach by Indimin

Smart Mining Coach, the first digital mining assistant, supports mine operation teams by showing them the opportunities to maximize their performance, an intelligent tool that is increasingly gaining recognition from the industry in Chile and Peru.

Thanks to studies and developments in major global mining companies, we discovered that the technological focus remained heavily centered on improving the process and assets, without motivating an important link: People leading change and efficiency sustainably,” describes Álvaro Díaz, CEO of Indimin.

“In these mining operations, we identified gaps of up to 43% in the performance of certain KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and up to 66% difference in squaring time among operators working under the same conditions,” the executive emphasizes. “We found these results and patterns in both copper mining and in iron and coal production.”

That’s why the company created Smart Mining Coach, a digital assistant that supports superintendents, supervisors, shift leaders, and operators, showing them opportunities to maximize their performance. “It is an artificial intelligence software that operates as a mobile or desktop application. It integrates online data and generates relevant feedback in the hands of its protagonists, looking for the best play of the day during the day,” Díaz illustrates.

“Collaborating with our clients in more than 15 sites in Latam, we have identified that at least 1 to 2 days of production are lost due to unmanaged patterns and losses,” the CEO exemplifies.

However, through Smart Mining Coach, we discover these loss patterns, generate timely feedback for the mine operation team in Loading, Hauling, and Drilling, and help to take concrete actions that also motivate desired behaviors. Thus, the digital assistant identifies, raises, and manages underperformance to operate safely and sustainably. This innovation began to be applied to shift leaders and then expanded to blasting, loading, and hauling operations, currently awakening interest and soon to cross borders in countries like Peru and Colombia.

In fact, the IIMP (Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru) nominated Smart Mining Coach for the second consecutive year for the National Mining Award, due to the projects and success stories developed. “We are going to present all this work during Perumin 2023,” the executive anticipates.”

Artificial Intelligence and Triple Impact

Beyond productivity. The company is currently developing the next generation of AI in its services, which is expected to generate even better results with a triple impact in each decision.

“To date, we have achieved individual improvement records of 41% and 12% in the Loading and Hauling processes, however, the challenge is to sustain and expand these results by ensuring that each decision has an integrated triple impact: Productive, Safe, and Sustainable in the way of operating, leveraged by our digital services, experience, and advanced analytics.”
